Patch Tuesday Drops: Your Systems Are Bleeding, Again.

Microsoft just rolled out its June 2024 Patch Tuesday updates, and it’s a big one. This month’s batch includes a whopping 57 security flaws, with several critical remote code execution vulnerabilities and an actively exploited zero-day that needs your immediate attention[1].

The standout critical flaw is CVE-2024-30080, a Windows MSHTML Platform Security Feature Bypass Vulnerability that’s already being exploited in the wild. Yes, a zero-day. This isn’t just theoretical; attackers are already leveraging it. Beyond that, we’re looking at other critical RCEs like CVE-2024-30082 in the Windows Wi-Fi Driver, CVE-2024-30086 in the Windows DWM Core Library, and CVE-2024-30088 affecting the Windows Kernel[2]. In total, 18 of the 57 vulnerabilities are rated Critical, meaning they could lead to full system compromise without user interaction.

So What?

If you’re running Windows systems—and let’s be real, who isn’t?—this isn’t a drill. The presence of an actively exploited zero-day means you’re already behind if you haven’t deployed these patches. For developers, understanding that fundamental components like MSHTML and even Wi-Fi drivers can be attack vectors is crucial for building more resilient applications. For security teams, this is your highest priority: get these updates deployed across your infrastructure, from servers to end-user laptops. Ignoring these vulnerabilities is an open invitation for a breach, especially given the ease of exploitation for many of these critical flaws.

Look, patching is never the fun part of the job, but it’s the absolute bedrock of cybersecurity. Don’t procrastinate. Get those updates installed ASAP. Your systems, and your sanity, will thank you.
