Patch Up Now! Microsoft’s June Update Drops Critical RCE Bomb

Alright team, it’s that time again: Microsoft’s monthly Patch Tuesday has landed, and this one brings a nasty surprise. Among the dozens of fixes, a critical Remote Code Execution (RCE) vulnerability in Microsoft Message Queuing (MSMQ) demands immediate attention.

The star of this month’s danger show is **CVE-2024-30080**, a vulnerability in MSMQ that scores a terrifying 9.8 out of 10 on the CVSS scale. It allows an unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code remotely by sending specially crafted malicious MSMQ packets to a vulnerable MSMQ server. Basically, if you’re running MSMQ and haven’t patched, you’re looking at a potential full system takeover without even clicking a link.[1]

So, what does this mean for you, the dev, the ops engineer, the security pro? It means drop everything and patch, like, yesterday. MSMQ is a common component in enterprise environments for inter-process communication, often used in older applications or backend services. An unauthenticated RCE is the holy grail for attackers; it’s low-effort, high-reward, and potentially wormable across networks. If threat actors develop an exploit for this—and they will, quickly—your unpatched systems are sitting ducks. This isn’t just a denial-of-service; it’s game over for that server.[2]

Don’t be the next headline. Prioritize this MSMQ patch. Seriously, go update your systems. Now.
